Emojis

How do you use emojis?

Often when someone’s texting, you cannot really see their body language or facial expressions. So emojis become your expression of joy, sadness, anger etc in various levels.  We sometimes decide to hide behind or express proactively using emojis. Sometimes a simple smile 😊 could be disguised pain while other times an emoji is an easier to use alternative to a few words. Emojis can also be used to cut out a conversation quickly.

When you start using emojis with someone on a regular basis, it takes up new meanings. It becomes a secret language between the two of you that no one else knows. It becomes fun to communicate and makes it so much special.

I have students who almost exclusively use emojis and also the gen-z language to communicate. I try to keep up with their jargons, learning them! Savage, Noob, FOMO, GOAT, Lit, Bruh, Swag, Lowkey, Thirst trap, No cap, Flexin. Of course I’m a boomer. Looks like short cuts are what we are after. We have even reduced songs to less than 30 seconds! It will be interesting to see how Ai, adapts to these quick texts.

I use emojis to review student assignments. I even have a star ⭐️ system for rating the assignments that I recieve from students. Emojis stand out and are easy to understand when I give out reviews. My students know more work is coming their way when they see this ⁉️ or this⚠️

Emojis have evolved with the pc culture. Real guns replaced  with water gunsπŸ”«. We have more skin tones now, πŸ–•πŸ»πŸ–•πŸ–•πŸΎπŸ–•πŸΏ and also pregnant men in all colours  πŸ«ƒπŸ»πŸ«ƒπŸΌπŸ«ƒπŸΎπŸ«ƒπŸΏ. We have some more for sexting! πŸ†πŸ’¦πŸ‘!

To conclude, use them, abuse them, after all this is all part of our freedom of speech and expression. More power. Hail mogambo!
