Gaurav Vaz - part 1

Allegro Fudge became my favorite band (after TAAQ) with the original line up, Noella on vocals, Rzhude on percussion and vocals, Joey on guitars, Jason on keys and Gaurav on bass. I was a regular fanboy, listening to the band’s streams on Reverbnation. Their song plight  had this haunting melody and I was hooked to the bass line, played by Gaurav. He also had played with and managed The Raghu Dixit Project. After many years I ended up playing guitars with the band’s latest lineup (Shalini, Jason, Saahas and I; and Kishan/Shreyas on drums) and kept bumping into Gaurav. I noticed how composed and organized he was with his work. He did a whole lot of things. He was the co-founder of an online radio channel (this was way before podcasts were a thing), managed a few festivals and bands, a web development company, photography, blogs, was a friends with Derek Sivers, the founder of CD baby! He also had a website to his name with little blogs and things he did! How cool!  I always wondered how

Shelter

Old Mathai turned around and looked at the house he had built one last time. He did not like living there anymore. They always shouted at him and tried to change him, he knew he was a being a burden to them.  He had packed his old suitcase, which he received as a compliment when he purchased gold for his daughter’s wedding. He packed one mundu, two white shirts, his penknife, his glasses, a torch, a tin of talcum powder and his old leather Bible. He also powdered his neck, tied a handkerchief around it, put on his shirt and mundu, slipped into his almost worn out sandals. This was his style. The add on was an umbrella he purchased for this purpose.  It had a “J”  handle that doubled as his walking stick.  He paced slowly through the dusty road, felt the heat from the sun. He opened his umbrella, which was his only shelter now and walked towards an unknown destination.

Allergy

Hiding behind the hay stack  Jimmy felt safe.  The cops must’ve given up now!  Sighed Jimmy again! There came a violent sneeze, That Jimmy couldn’t contain!  His allergies got him caught. Back to the Jail again!

Heartbreak

Joseph picked the phone, and murmured a no so confident “hello”. He listened intently and then raised his voice! “What do you mean you fell out of love?” There was some explanation given from  the other end.  He smashed his phone as hard as he could on the marble floor with the same intensity he had used to break the coconut at the temple. All he was left with were some broken coconuts, a broken phone and a broken heart.

Idly chutney

White, fluffy, soft disks!  Have you touched the cloud?  With coconut chutney,  A rainstorm in my mouth  God bless the hands that made these, It is simply baffling,  Four of my senses engaged!  I wish I could hear it as well.

Cold

My sinus is a circus! I try to avoid a sneeze and there is a tingling inside my nose, and atchoo, here comes another one!  I think, I got it after I got drenched in the cold Bangalore rains. I was on my Activa, I soaked my pants, my waterproof jacket didn’t help either. A warm water bath and a bowl of hot soup is craved! I can sense another one coming… atchoo. I apply vapor rub and pray this ends soon.  Gotta deal with them clowns in my sinus with at least some steam. Adios.

Push-up

I’ve always wanted to be able to do push-ups, I realized I couldn’t do even one!  So I made a plan. Started with wall push-ups, I was almost vertical I did a 100 of those. After a few weeks of that,  I did 100, table high. I then found stairs and continued with it hip high. I have now reduced it to knee length, 50 push-ups, in sets of 15, 15, 10, 10.  It’s still hard to do. It’s been a few months since I started. I’m so much closer to what I want!
