Ilayaraja! Why bro?

Ilaiyaraaja sends legal notices like it is a morning routine. One stretch, one yawn, one threat. Suddenly everyone in the film industry starts checking if they accidentally hummed his tune in the shower.

The funniest part is this. Every notice he sends pushes young musicians further away from his songs. Not because they hate the music. They just do not want to spend their weekend replying to lawyers. So the music starts disappearing from films and reels. Not due to age. Due to fear.

I discovered his songs again only because of recent movies. Just when the melodies were getting fresh love he told them to remove it. After the movie released, and after people got attached. 

He even won a court case recently, now they have to remove the song even though they have permissions from the record label.  At this point it feels less like protection and more like he needs everyone to keep saying his name loudly every week.

Till then the rest of us will listen to his music and hum along on YouTube with the volume low. Not for mood. For safety!

Denzil is going back to the Netherlands tonight! So he called me (last night), to accompany him to IDC for breakfast! He wanted to satisfy his Masala Dosa and podi Idli cravings!  So we set out early, at  6:30ish as planned  7:45 to IDC. Andy joined us. We drank coffee, ate some amazing breakfast.  After we stepped out, our eyes fell upon this dawg! The pup was shivering.. and had this “I need help” “I’m cuter than them bitches” eyes. We really didn’t know what to do. People walking around at the park told us, it was abandoned and had difficulty to walk. Some people even asked us to “please do something, it needs help” Someone had abandoned the pup at the park maybe in hopes that someone will rescue her. “Compassionately heartless” quipped Denzil  I reached out to everyone I knew who had some experience with rescuing dogs! When was the last time you said,  “What I did was wrong” before blaming someone else? It takes integrity, humility, and courage to admit when you’re wrong. But doing so can bring peace and help you move on without bitterness. We all make mistakes, we’re human, not robots. We mess up sometimes, and that’s okay. Every action has consequences. We just have to face them and take responsibility for our choices. It's tough to live with guilt and shame, but you’ve got to forgive yourself and move forward. If you choose to repeat the same mistake, that’s your decision!, but be aware, there  will  be consequences. Growth only begins the moment you stop running from the truth and start owning your story. Along with being kind to yourself you must be honest as well. That’s when healing begins.

Good bye 2024

2024, what a year it has been! Lot of learning, growth and experiences. The year started with an accident! I didn’t walk for 3 months. I spent my time contemplating a change in career, but eventually decided against it.  Then, I picked myself up, did 2 music workshops and a student concert. This gave my students and me the confidence on the journey we are taking with music.  I have a lot of people to be thankful for.  Mom! What an amazing woman! She’s a power house, keeping it all together. Can’t thank her enough for the meals, love and care she shows towards me.  Andy! My brother, I have watched him grow from a small boy to a fine gentleman through the years. We have shared a lot of moments and laughter together. I’m very proud to see how he picked himself up.  Solomon! Sibling from another mother.
